The Kushi Macro Diet

The Kushi Macro Diet is a diet created by Japanese doctor, Michio Kushi specifically to treat illnesses such as cancer. The diet uses the philosophies of Yin and Yang to help an individual consume the right types of food to fight illness and/or to stay healthy.

The Kushi Macro Diet relies heavily on Eastern philosophy to develop a diet that balances a person’s Yin and Yang. However, there are recommendations that include holistic medicine that can help any individual. Some of the foods that one should have in their diet include whole foods that contain vitamin C such as broccoli and other green, leafy vegetables. Other foods that are recommended are teas, including green teas. It should be noted that foods should be prepared a certain way in order to gain the most benefit from them. You can learn more about the diet and the process from his book: The Cancer Prevention Diet.

Foods that should be avoided with the Kushi Macro Diet include all foods that come from animals including meat, poultry eggs, dairy and fats that are greasy.

Pros of the Kushi Macro Diet

For those that may have a certain illness such as cancer or would like to increase their health and well being, the Kushi Macro Diet offers a holistic approach to dieting. Although his diet can be difficult to follow, especially for those that have busy lifestyles, Dr. Kushi does offer dieters solutions- especially if they are looking for diets containing an Eastern philosophy approach.

Cons of the Kushi Macro Diet

The Kushi Macro Diet can be a very difficult diet to follow. While developed for those with specific illnesses, it is first important to talk with your doctor to make sure you will be receiving all the nutrition your body needs. While based on Eastern philosophy and the holistic approach to medicine, Western medicine has yet to conclusively prove that the properties of Yin and Yang have a direct effect on healthy. As always, consult with your physician before starting a new diet or exercise program.
