The Biggest Loser Diet

The Biggest Loser is an American TV show where contestants compete to lose the most weight in a set period of time. Because of the success of the participant’s many viewers have begun to follow the same diet. The Biggest Loser Diet can be classified as a healthy diet plan along with a moderate exercise program. Here are the details.

The Biggest Loser Diet is based on a specific type of pyramid called the 4-3-2-1 pyramid:

4- Servings of fruits and vegetables per day
3- Servings of lean protein per day
2- Servings of whole grains
1- “Extra” a wild card category which can include oil and sweets

Included with this 4-3-2-1 pyramid approach is a daily regular exercise program that starts out being about 30 minutes and increases to 1 hour.

Pros of the Biggest Loser Diet

There are plenty of pros regarding the Biggest Loser Diet. First off since this diet recommends eating a wide variety of healthy foods that are low in fat, you will not only get all the vitamins you need, but you should also be able to easily lower your caloric count, reduce your fat consumption and lower cholesterol. It should be noted that for those that still like to eat their favorite candy or desert on occasion, this diet allows one serving (about 200 calories) of a wildcard item- making it easier for you to stay on the diet.

Besides eating a variety of healthy foods, the Biggest Loser Diet also includes a daily exercise program which starts out at 30 minutes a day and increases to about an hour after a few weeks.

Cons of the Biggest Loser Diet

The Biggest Loser Diet generally doesn’t have that many cons. While those that have a busy lifestyle will find it difficult to work out each and everyday, most dieters will quickly fall into the routine. Another small downside regarding this diet is that some of the diet plans must be purchased, however you can buy a book on the diet that gives you complete plans for 12 weeks for only $20 to $30. As always, consult with a physician before starting any diet or exercise program.
