Special K is a popular cereal in the United States and since it is already low in calories and contains quite a few vitamins and nutrients, besides being a delicious breakfast cereal it is now known as the main food source in a low fat, low caloric diet.
The Special K Diet
The Special K Diet is a simple diet created by Kellogg's (the company that makes Special K) to promote weight loss as well as help in maintenance of a desired weight goal. The Special K Diet makes the claim that the average person can lose about six pounds during the first two weeks.
One of the advantages of the Special K Diet is that it is an easy diet to be on. While on the Special K Diet, you substitute two of your regular meals (e.g. breakfast and lunch) with a bowl of Special K cereal. You can choose any two meals to eat your Special K cereal; however, your third meal while on the Special K diet should consist of a sensible meal to help consume needed nutrients that you do not get via the cereal.
It should be noted that the actual bowl of cereal you consume while on the Special K Diet consists of one cup of the Special K cereal and 2/3 cup of skimmed milk- to be eaten twice daily.
When on a Special K diet, it is recommended that you drink lots of fluids to keep yourself well hydrated and to avoid constipation. For quick snacks, you can eat fruits or vegetables (refrain from starches such as potatoes). Another option available is to eat a Special K cereal bar for those on the go or for those that require a small snack.
Effectiveness of Special K Diet
Although the Special K Diet is a very easy diet to practice, it may be tough for many dieters that require more substance and variety in the meals that they eat.
In addition, when on the Special K diet, more than likely, you will still feel hungry. The Special K Diet works because it reduces your overall daily calorie intake. While most diets leave you hungry, psychologically, you may feel hungrier than a normal low calorie diet, because you are only eating cereal.
If you choose to go on this diet, one of the best ways to succeed is to add an exercise program. Eating less, along with a regular exercise program is perhaps the best way to lose weight and keep weight off for the long term. It should also be noted that the third meal (other than Special K cereal) must be healthy and sensible. Two bowls of cereal on the Special K Diet and a large, high calorie meal will likely make no dent in your weight loss.

Obviously a major disadvantage of being on the Special K Diet is that it is not recommended for long term weight loss, due to the fact that most people are not disciplined enough to stick to two bowls of cereal and only one healthy meal per day.
