One of the ways that people are now trying to lose weight is to choose a diet that goes well with their personality type. Recent evidence suggests that an individual's personality type can have an effect on one's relationship with food and exercise.

Two Types of Personalities

There are basically two types of personalities - type A and type B. Type A personalities are those who are anxious and live and breathe schedules. Type B, on the other hand, are considered to be easygoing and more relaxed. With these major differences, creating a diet for specific personalities can be quite effective.

An Overview of the Personality Type Diet

Before you start the Personality Type Diet, you are asked to answer a questionnaire of about 70 questions. The answers that you give will offer you insight into which type of personality you are. In addition, based upon your answers and your overall score, you will be given a specific diet from the following choices; Meal Skipper, Uneasy Participant or People Pleaser.

The Personality Type Diet was created by Dr. Kushner. He believes that the personality of a person directly affects his or her relationship with food and how one goes about exercising. So, what might work for one person does not necessarily mean that it might work for the other. However, with the Personality Type Diet, you can rest assured that you will be getting the kind of diet and exercise program that suits your specific personality in order to maximize your weight loss, exercise and overall health goals.

Does the Personality Type Diet Work?

One's personality can have a huge impact on how we view many things, and this can also include dieting and exercise. So, one way to maximize your relationship with food and exercise is to try to match your personality with a specific diet program.

While the Personality Type Diet can be extremely beneficial for those that can be categorized easily, for those that have the traits or are on the borderline of each personality, the Personality Type Diet may prove not as effective. The jury is still out on how effective the overall diet is in the long term. In addition, a person does not have to rely on the Personality Type Diet if they are categorized as Type A or Type B, there are plenty of diets available that fit specific personalities even though they weren't developed for this criterion.
