3-Day Diet
The 3-day Diet is a fad diet that was developed during the mid 1980′s. Unfortunately, the original author of the diet is unknown. The 3-day Diet promises extremely fast weight loss in about 3 days. While some weight loss can be achieved, the majority is due to water (fluid) loss of your body which can be dangerous.
The 3-day Diet is to be followed strictly for 3 days and then the dieter must eat normally for about 4 to 5 days before once again going on the 3-day Diet. According the diet, the types of food that are eaten cause a special metabolic reaction that promotes rapid weight loss. Followers of the 3 Day Diet are promised up to a 10 pound weight loss in three days, although realistically, most of that weight is likely due to fluid loss and not the more desirable fat loss.
The meal plan consists of coffee, toast, vegetables, fruits and some other items such as cheese in very small servings over the course of a day. This meal plan which can usually be found surfing the internet must be followed specifically to lose the reported 10 pounds in 3 days.
Pros of the 3-day Diet
The 3-day Diet can help you lose weight fast. If you are a healthy individual that just wants to lose a couple of pounds in a very short amount of time and have the discipline to eat very small portions for three days, this diet can be an option.
Cons of the 3-day Diet
Unfortunately, this diet is one of the worst for most dieters to go on. You are not really losing weight- just dangerously depleting yourself of fluids. In addition, there is no scientific evidence that the foods eaten on this diet cause some specific metabolic reaction conducive to losing weight. Another downside is that this diet is not a lifestyle and does not advocate exercise- meaning whatever weight you lose with this diet will usually be put back on in a short period of time. As always, consult with a physician before starting any diet or exercise program.
